Swiatek questions WTA scheduling with only one event this week

Iga Swiatek has come out to question WTA scheduling once more as she called the situation of having only one event this week 'unfortunate'.

The 2023 Qatar Open in Doha is a WTA 500 event which is why it's the only event this week in WTA tennis but Swiatek thinks it's unfortunate. The qualifiers featured several prominent tennis players who failed to make the cut and have to sit out the week which is the main issue Swiatek has.

I don’t know what caused this situation, there were great players who had to go through the qualies and others who didn’t enter directly, it’s a rather unfortunate situation. It would be nice if there was more variety.

I’m in a position where I know I’ll be in every tournament, but not all of them have that privilege. I feel sorry for those most affected because they could also be playing this week, earning points and money, but they can’t.

Swiatek understands that this is a big event and that's why it happened but she would still like more variety to give others a chance to play as well.

It is enough to see how our first round has been to understand the toughness of the draw, each game is very difficult, but I would like there to be more variety, to have another tournament in a different city.
