Iga Swiatek finished her Wimbledon campaign on a disappointing note, but she quickly forgot about it with a vacation in Greece.
Iga Swiatek is having a solid season so far, not on the level of last year but still pretty solid. It put her in some tricky waters, for example, as she nearly lost the number one rank on the WTA Tour at Wimbledon recently. Sabalenka was only two games away from dethroning Swiatek from the top, but Ons Jabeur came to the rescue.
Being number one is a motivator for Swiatek but not necessarily the crucial thing. She won Roland Garros, so in her mind, the season has still been a pretty solid one so far. The Wimbledon loss to Svitolina was disappointing, but she forgot about it with a trip to Greece.
She posted an update on social media from Crete and joked that she would like to stay on the island for the whole month. She also thanked those that helped her organize the short trip to the far south of the European continent.
I have one of the best jobs in the world if it allows me to visit places like this one. I'm seriously considering staying here for the rest of the month so say nothing to my team please.
For wonderful holiday in Crete, I would like to thank @planet_escape, who took care of the smallest detail and made the short trip full of quality rest, beautiful views and delicious food.
Obviously staying in Crete would have been nice for Swiatek but she's got a job to do. The Poland Open doesn't have the ideal place in the WTA calendar as this trip was cut short because of her home event which she wasn't going to miss.
If it was a bit sooner or later, then she would have probably stayed there longer. Well, you can't have it all, even if you're the number one in the world.
