Tennis might not be the most popular sport in the world, but it's up there as the list of Most Searched Female Athletes shows.
The list of the most searched female athletes is a fascinating one because three tennis players top the list. It's pretty known that tennis is not the most popular sport in the world, but it's interesting to note that, seemingly, women's tennis seems to be.
The first non-tennis female athlete on the list is Alexia Putellas, who plays football, which is the most popular sport in the world. Yet, her name has only been searched 7.8 million times, which is pretty much half the number of the most searched female athletes in the world.
That is WTA's Iga Swiatek with 15 million searches, which is an impressive amount when you put it into perspective. Coming from Poland, which has a sizeable population, certainly helps. Even so, the second is Coco Gauff, with 10 million searches, which is quite far away from the Polish player.
Gauff was obviously in the spotlight for two good weeks during her US Open run, which ended with a trophy and that certainly contributed to her numbers. Coming from the United States, a huge country with a huge population certainly helps but it still wasn't enough to dethrone Swiatek.
Number 3 on the list is Emma Raducanu, whose name has been in the media ever since she won the US Open two years ago. It's interesting how much media attention she garners, even if she spent much of this year away from the courts and out of the spotlight entirely.
Imagine what her comeback in two months in Australia will be like. Buckle up because it's getting closer, and she's preparing for it. The likes of Naomi Osaka and Jessica Pegula also made it to the list as the ninth and tenth most-searched players.
