Eugenie Bouchard reacted on social media to the American amateur tennis players believing they could win games against professional tennis players.
Any sports, when done correctly, looks pretty easy from the comforts of your home. Tennis is no exception, yet if you've ever stood on a tennis court, you'll notice that it's pretty big and going from one side to the other becomes very exhausting.
Even so, there are plenty of amateur players in the US who believe they could hold their own against a professional tennis player. The graphic was brought up during a segment with Andy Roddick and Andrea Petkovic on the Tennis Channel, and it left them both in stitches.
71 % of all those questioned believed they could win a game against a professional player. 82 % of those that said yes were between the ages of 18-24. It's not specific to only young amateur players because 47 % of those over the age of 55 believe they could win a game as well.
This is insane! If I had as much self-confidence in my tennis game, as these people who were surveyed, I would've won Wimbledon 17 times. Minimum! This is absolutely insane. There is no chance.
It's a pretty remarkable revelation, and as Roddick pointed out it's pretty insane. Andrea Petkovic reacted to it as well explaining that she's actually played with amateur and if she really tries they can't win a single point.
I actually like to play against amateurs, especially now that I'm retired. I hit with them, and when they hit they think 'Oh, this is easy. I can hang with the pros.' And then when we start playing points, I don't even give them a point!
Eugenie Bouchard, who recently struggled with her tennis, reacted to the statistics, too, saying that people that responded to this poll are delusional, echoing the previous claims from Roddick and Petkovic.
