Jessica Pegula is one busy tennis player his week at the US Open playing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
Pegula is one of the rare players who is still playing both singles and doubles regularly. It used to be very common in the past that top players competed in both disciplines, but recently, it's been fairly rare.
Pegula plays doubles on the WTA Tour with fellow American Coco Gauff, forming one of the better doubles teams in the world. When Grand Slams come around, Pegula opts to play mixed doubles as well, pairing up with Austin Krajicek in the last few attempts.
They contested a match yesterday after Pegula took down Elina Svitolina earlier in the day. Speaking after that, Pegula talked about the difficulties of playing so many matches even though she's enjoying the competition.
So scheduling I would say is probably the main thing. Also physically, I mean, how you're feeling and stuff is also part of it. I feel like mixed to me is just a fun way to go out there and be able to compete. I think as long as you're feeling okay physically, and the schedule isn't horrible at the time, I don't know, I enjoy it. I think it's fun.
I'd much rather do that than anything else. That's just how I feel. I know not everyone feels the same way. For me it's fun to go out there, especially playing with an American at the US Open.
Pegula remains in the draw for singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. The goal is to obviously win a trophy, in singles preferably, but she wouldn't mind winning any Grand Slam trophies. She's facing Madison Keys in singles and is teaming up with Gauff in the doubles and Krajicek in the mixed doubles. Let's see what happens in the coming days.
