Andy Roddick knows what it's like to come close to winning Wimbledon but still fail, and he had a message for Ons Jabeur after she lost in the final once more.
The Tunisian trailblazer made her way to the Wimbledon final once more, but once again, she came up short. She was hugely favoured against Marketa Vondrousova in the final for several reasons. She was the better-ranked player with more success overall in her career.
She was also far more experienced on grass as the Czech player largely struggled on the surface. Still, Vondrousova proved better on the court leaving Jabeur heartbroken. She's now 0-3 in Grand Slam Finals but Andy Roddick has faith that she can win.
I was sad for Ons after Wimbledon. On top of being a great player and a great person, her story is incredible. Coming from Tunisia, trailblazing for that part of the world, being so dynamic and comfortable in that role – she has a lot to be proud of.
I actually sent her a message after the final and said, “Listen, if you ever want to chat, I've been where you are right now. But I have more faith in you winning Wimbledon than I ever had in myself winning Wimbledon."
The next chance to win a Grand Slam for Jabeur will come at the US Open. She made her way to the final last year but fell short against Iga Swiatek. According to Roddick, she should take a breather and not rush back. Step back and prepare well was the message he had for her.
I just hope she doesn't feel the need to rush back. Take a breath, take a minute, make sure you prepare, keep your fitness going. There are still a few weeks leading up to the US Open. She's someone I really hope wins a Grand Slam title at some point.
