Swiatek Deserves More Spotlight Than Overhyped Players Suggests Roddick

Iga Swiatek is not a media darling like some other players but she's promoting the sport in the most admirable fashion.

She's been the best player for many weeks now showing a level that's not quite been seen in a while and the honor that she received from the TIME is absolutely deserved. Absolute perfection would be taking it far but there are times when Swiatek looks absolutely incredible which is very inspiring to many of her colleagues who referenced her often in the past 12 months.

Even so, she's not really a media darling because she doesn't carry herself in that way. There are not many commercials, front pages, or general interest which is a shame because not only is she a fabulous tennis player but she's also a very relatable individual who openly talks about mental health and sponsors causes related to it.

She's also very keen to help others in need taking great responsibility as the number one player in the world and speaking out on issues like the Ukranian war forcing the hand of the WTA to intervene after Potapova's questionable behaviour recently. She also staged a charity for Ukraine that raised lots of money, something that is yet to be replicated by any of her colleagues.

One of the things I love seeing because a lot of people on the women's side get covered a lot more for a lot less accomplishments than Iga Swiatek. So I'm happy that she's getting this crossover exposure because it is well deserved. She is uber professional, she is finding her voice outside of the arena so I love seeing this for Iga.

Roddick on Swiatek's inclusion on the top 100 most influential people by TIME

Roddick is absolutely right because not only did Swiatek deserve this, she's deserved more people paying attention to what she does on and off the court. For a sport that is basically making one mistake after another, Swiatek is a perfect chance to make it more appealing to a wider range of people.
