Raducanu Reflects On Saying She 'Wished She'd Never Won US Open'

by Zachary Wimer

Emma Raducanu said last year that she sometimes wishes she had never won the US Open, something she reflected on in a recent interview.

People and opinions change, so it's not unusual for Raducanu to disagree with something she said last year. During a personal interview in 2023, Raducanu famously said that sometimes she wishes that she had never won the US Open.

Obviously, that's an interesting statement because even with all the negative things that happened because of it, she also became very popular and her life has completely changed.

It's why, in a most recent interview with CNN, Raducanu admitted that she actually wouldn't trade it for the world. Of course, she wouldn't because every opportunity she got after her US Open win came because of that.

It literally changed her life over a fortnight and even with what she has to face outside of the tennis court, it very likely changed it for the better.

"Yeah, I think when I was saying those things, I hadn’t necessarily had the time to take a step back and reflect. Now in the position that I’m in, I wouldn’t trade it for the world."

That interview came at a very strange time for Raducanu as she was recovering from injuries with a lot of outside noise, wondering what would happen to her.

It was just a whirlwind, and she likely said something that she didn't really think much about. Obviously, she's very grateful that it happened, as it's not something that many people get to experience.

"But I think I was so wrapped up and so caught up in everything, in the whirlwind that happened after. And now having come through injury with a different perspective, I’m really grateful that I did so."

Raducanu backtracked on her previous words about being a Grand Slam champion, and now she will be certainly even more hungry to add another one.
