After giving it a second try this year, Karolina Pliskova called it quits with 2018 WTA coach of the year Sascha Bajin.
Pliskova and Bajin worked together in two separate stints, with the second one proving less fruitful than the first one. In the first one, Bajin helped Pliskova get to a Wimbledon final and improve to a level we haven't seen her in a very long time.
It happened before the 2021 season, with the split coming in the middle of last year. Pliskova didn't improve that much since then, even though she enlisted the help of Bajin before the 2023 season. She's been okay with a 19-13 record so far, but no signature runs or trophies.
The coach himself announced the split on social media, thanking her for giving him another shot. He hailed the memories and fun moments they had together while wishing her good luck in the coming events, including the US Open.
Hey @KaPliskova thanks for giving it another go with me. Thank you for all the fun moments and memories created. All the best from me to you and good luck at the US Open. Hope you get your slam Let’s see what’s next for me Any suggestions guys?
The German coach will now look for his next job as he asked his followers for any suggestions. He famously worked with Naomi Osaka leading her to two Grand Slams trophies and becoming Coach of the Year in 2018. He then worked with Kristina Mladenovic briefly, as well as with Dayana Yastremska.
This year he worked with Pliskova and now he's a free agent once more. He won't be coaching Coco Gauff as one of his followers suggested though as he responded that she's in great hands with Pere Riba. That's only a trial though so who knows?
