De Minaur Eyes Major Breakthrough Amid 'A Stage In Tennis Where Everything Is Opening Up'

Alex de Minaur is eyeing a spot among the ATP elite as he aims to push on in the remaining big tournaments in 2023.

So far in 2023, de Minaur has had a stop-start season. In June, the Australian reached the Cinch Championship final and lost to Carlos Alcaraz before he was eliminated in the second round of Wimbledon after a straight-sets loss against Matteo Berrettini.

The loss followed a second-round exit at Roland Garros and a career-best fourth-round run at the 2023 Australian Open in 2023. However, when speaking to the official ATP website, the 24-year-old believes that competition at the top is wide open, and he is looking to seize on the opportunity in the coming months.

"We're getting to a stage in tennis where everything is opening up a lot, so that's quite exciting. Looking at myself personally, I would like to be amongst the people breaking through to the next level,”

de Minaur told the ATP website

"So that’s the plan for me. Just keep working on myself. Keep trying to push through and be the guy that ends up going deep in the big tournaments in the big weeks.”

Reflecting on his season so far, de Minaur gave an honest assessment about his performance, that has included some highs and lows. Yet the world number 17 is feeling positive about producing a strong end to his campaign.

"It’s been quite an up and down season. I've had some very good results and some not so good ones, which I would like to erase,”

"But still right now I stand at a pretty good spot with the second part of the year to go and I’m looking forward to hopefully being able to make good use of where I am and have some good results and keep pushing higher and higher and hopefully get to a new career high.”
