Simona Halep won the French Open in 2018, and ahead of the 2022 edition, she opened up about her recent life on Tour, admitting to finding love for tennis once more.

Halep has been one of the most successful tennis players in recent years. She is a two-time Grand Slam champion, having won the 2018 French Open and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships, and also a former World No. 1 player on the WTA Tour.

But like every player, she also experienced highs and lows in her career. Although her performances have been far from terrible in 2022, the Romanian player struggled a bit, and she now released a statement, reflecting on the past few months, and how she finally feels refreshed and ready.

She penned an emotional letter for Eurosport, explaining her journey in recent weeks and how the 2022 Roland Garros motivated her to succeed again.

"I feel refreshed; I feel more confident; I feel healthy. Finally! I have no problems now, with no injuries. I feel so happy to be back on the court, and I am looking forward to playing each match because I really want to continue to improve."
"Roland-Garros is my favourite tournament and I always feel great when I go there. It is going to be a little bit different because last year I didn’t play, so we will see."
"I need more time to get my confidence back, and more matches. So hopefully I can continue to find form before going there and I can just enjoy it because it is the best tournament for me."

Halep also addressed the possibility of a retirement. She admitted that she always knew that once she wouldn't have sufficient level, she would end her tennis career.

"I have always said that if I felt like I could not play at the highest level then I would stop playing tennis because it would mean that I did not really believe in myself."

However, that's not the case for her at the moment. With Patrick Mouratoglou now in her team, Halep seems to be more motivated than ever.

"If you don’t truly believe, there is no point in continuing, but now, having met Patrick and the new team has brought me new confidence in myself."
"They really believe that I am still able to play good tennis, so the goal is to win tournaments and to be as strong as I can be. I will do everything I can to achieve that. I am ready and I am all in."
"In terms of how many more years I think I have left in me, it is a day-to-day vision. I don’t want to only set one goal. The goal is just to improve myself all the time."
