Eugenie Bouchard returned after a lengthy injury in the closing months of 2022, and fans will now have the option of wearing a jersey she released during her matches next year.
Over eight years have passed since Bouchard reached the 2014 Wimbledon final as a 20-year-old. Because of her outstanding talent, the Canadian was widely tipped to be a future multiple Grand Slam champion.
However, she has not regained that form since. Her motivation dropped for some of the last eight years, although Bouchard retains an active fanbase with whom she regularly communicates on social media.
Bouchard seemed to be finding some form again after reaching a WTA Final in Mexico in March 2021. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old then sustained a severe shoulder injury that ruled her out for 17 months.
The former Wimbledon runner-up returned in August. That included playing and winning a round at the Guadalajara Open. Bouchard was one of several high-profile players who attended the players' party at the tournament.
She recently revealed on Instagram a new jersey with "Bouchard" on the back, designed by New Balance. The jersey is now live, and Bouchard outlined why she wanted to create the jersey for her fans.
"I just got the news that my T-shirt is now live. To quickly give some background, I obviously play in individual sport so we don't have jerseys and I always thought it would be cool to be able to give fans something they could wear to like represent the player that they support."
"So, I have always wanted to create a jersey, which is why we have this pic of me in the front and on the back. It says 'Genie' with a number."
"I picked all the colors. I took all the time to design this during my injury break. It was something I wanted to release as I came back on tour and that's what the 22 represents, the year 2022, which is very important for me, my comeback on tour and to celebrate this with new balance, and all of you guys just mean so much to me."
