According to multiple Grand Slam doubles champion Rennae Stubbs, Venus Williams is quite likely to join her sister Serena Williams for a farewell performance at the 2022 US Open.
In the latest Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast edition, Stubbs discussed her thoughts on Venus possibly retiring in the future.
"I think that it would very much surprise me if Venus Williams doesn't retire as well at the US Open," said Stubbs while arguing that her retirement will be different to that of Serena.
The Australian believes that Venus, who is typically more reserved will convey that side of her personality in the announcement of her retirement. She compared it to Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, two renowned tennis players, and their difference in doing so. While Agassi had a big farewell, Graf made a sudden announcement.
"It'll be interesting to see what Venus does now because I just can't see one playing without the other. So Venus, of course, as always very low key, Venus will probably finish the last match and be like, yeah, by the way, that's it. Like, you know, that sort of personality...You know, as I can see, Venus being like 'Yeah, bye. That's it. I'm done'."
