Swiatek Sets Up Gauff Rematch At Roland Garros After 29-Minute Retirement From Tsurenko

Iga Swiatek is through to the next round of Roland Garros following a 29-minute match against Lesia Tsurenko who retired.

Swiatek was the huge favourite before this match so her advancing isn't really surprising yet she would have preferred to do it without a RET near Tsurenko's name. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian tennis player started experiencing issues pretty early in the first set while Swiatek dominated.

She took a medical timeout after breaking Swiatek and the score being 4-1 in favour of the Polish player with the doctor measuring her blood pressure. She was seemingly experiencing breathing difficulties judging by the treatment she was receiving during the medical timeout.

She continued after that, and played one game which Swiatek won comfortably and then retired from the match unfortunately with the clock stopping at 29 minutes. Not a great finish to the match but Swiatek will be glad about advancing and not having to talk about the bagel factory as the score was 5-1 and not 6-0 when the match ended.

The next match should present a bigger challenge for Swiatek as she will take Coco Gauff who secured the quarter-final earlier today with a win over Schmiedlova in straight sets. It's the matchup we saw in the Roland Garros final last year with Swiatke winning comfortably. This year we might see a different result but it would require a superb performance from Gauff.

Her level has been steady but not quite on the level of Swiatek who is a huge matchup problem for her. They played after that Roland Garros final and it didn't look pretty as Swiatek won all three times and each win was a decisive win. The most games she lost against Gauff was their most recent one match in Dubai where the American took only six games.
