Emma Raducanu was spotted in tears during her practice ahead of the 2022 US Open, but she confirmed that everything will be fine in response to that.
Lots of rumors have been swirling around regarding Raducanu and her US Open participation. The defending champion returned to the place where she made history a year ago, and there is a lot of media attention on the British player.
Her level so far this year has been unremarkable, and it’s very unlikely that she would be able to reproduce her last year's success. On top of that, she might not even play, which would be devastating for her.
She’s dealt with a few injuries this year but mostly powered through them with the occasional minor pause to playing. Her wrist seems to be the major problem right now, as Raducanu was caught by cameras sobbing during one of her practices.
She was also pointing toward her wrist, indicating that it was giving her a good amount of problems, which is not good news. The British player is likely going to play at the event simply because it’s the US Open, and she’s the defending champion.
What she’ll be able to produce on the courts remains to be seen because a wrist injury does impact play rather significantly.
When asked by the media about the footage of her sobbing, she dismissed it by pointing out that she doesn’t have any kind of issues, which is technically good news if true, but how true it remains to be seen.
"Can't really explain myself, to be honest. I mean, I have no concerns of an issue, no."
According to reports, the serve is most troubling for Raducanu, and that could be a big issue if true. Her first-round opponent is Alize Cornet if the Brit steps up to play the match.
