'Highly Special And Unique': Gauff Praised By Federer For US Open Triumph

Roger Federer praised Coco Gauff for her recent US Open run, describing the rising star as incredible and the future of tennis.

Coco Gauff has been hailed as the future of tennis for years as we've gotten to know her as a 15-year-old doing some good things at Wimbledon. Fast forward to now, and the now 19-year-old Gauff is a Grand Slam champion.

Very few fans are shocked by that, and if anything is remotely shocking, it might be that she only did it so 'late'. She had a chance to win a Grand Slam last year in Paris but was beaten by Iga Swiatek. Her next chance came on home soil against Sabaelnka, and she didn't let this one slip through.

It was just a crowning moment for Gauff, who entered the US Open with a winning streak extending it in the Big Apple and still has it. We don't know when her comeback will be, but let her enjoy this time. You only win your first Grand Slam once.

Federer is in Vancouver this weekend for the Laver Cup, and he was asked about the current tennis landscape. He talked about both Tours but singled out Gauff on the women's side calling her incredible and the future of tennis.

The current tennis scene looks good to me. I mean if I just look quickly over to what Coco Gauff did, you know at the US Open, I thought that was highly special and unique and I've known her since almost five years now. She's incredible.

Federer on Gauff

The Swiss ace is very familiar with everything that is happening in tennis, as he admitted earlier this year that he checks tennis scores almost daily. He certainly kept track of Gauff at the US Open, so he's quite familiar with how bright her future is.
