Coco Gauff told her team to zip it at one point during the match against Caroline Wozniacki at the 2023 US Open, explaining after the match why it happened.

Coaching is now legal in tennis, as the coaches can throw a few words in during the match. The rule is not harshly enforced, so we're often getting monologues by the coaches, and it's not always very helpful.

We all know how it is when too many people talk simultaneously, and it happened during the fourth-round match, annoying Gauff. She has two coaches, or a coach and an advisor, but neither is shy to speak their minds during a match, and it gets a bit confusing sometimes.

A reporter asked Gauff about Gilbert's reputation for talking a lot during a match, and she admitted that her 'shushing' wasn't directed solely to him. During the match, Gauff said 'stop talking,' to her team, and so she explained the situation afterwards.

It wasn't really towards him. There has been situations a couple times in the matches where Pere and Brad will both talk at the same time. I will say, Okay, stop talking because it jumbles my head. Sometimes when I go to my towel, it's a reset moment. I don't need to hear anything. I just need to reset and think about me.
But, yeah, I do think today I did say, Stop talking, at one point because I was getting frustrated. It wasn't really directed at him. off the court he does talk, but I like it. I think any time I can get advice, it's great.

Obviously, the setup has been going pretty well for Gauff with the Cincinnati result and the recent level of tennis she's been able to produce. They work well and understand each other, so they don't take any offence to shushing.

Yeah, I might say some things like "Stop talking." I did it in Cincinnati. They don't take any offense to it. They know sometimes I just need to not hear anything. Sometimes I'll ask them, What am I doing wrong? I don't know if the camera picks that up. Probably not. But I sometimes will say, What am I doing wrong? And that's when I want advice.
