Sofia Kenin is having a really good week at the 2023 San Diego Open, and it's an exciting time for her as she hopes to end her title drought on the WTA Tour.
When Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open a few years ago, many expected a drizzle, but we got a drought as the American's career completely went off the rails. Injuries destroyed far too many careers, but Kenin was determined not to let it happen to her, and slowly but surely, she's been getting back to her former self.
Performances like the one at Wimbledon and more recently this week give fans hope that Kenin is on track to return to her Top 10 level. It's been a very good week for her in San Diego as she will contest the semi-final hoping to go all the way.
I'm super happy. You know, I played really well. I'm having good matches under my belt. Definitely gives me a lot of confidence. I'm doing everything right. I felt I'm confident and dominant already.
Talent was never in question regarding Kenin, but more so the injuries. She simply didn't play enough lately to find any kind of rhythm or gain any sort of confidence. Having been mostly healthy this year and playing, Kenin is turning the corner, and that was expected.
This, you know, early year mid-year already. So I feel like that's a buildup, but yeah, when I'm super happy with the way everything's going. Mindset is there I'm feisty, energetic. So all good.
She hopes to finish off the year on a high note and then potentially look to expand that further next year. If she remains healthy, expect Kenin to throw in her name for winning titles because we've seen her do it already. It's like riding a bicycle, you don't really forget it easily.
