Coco Gauff won a Grand Slam trophy at the 2023 US Open, and speaking after the match, the American revealed what she did the night before.

Gauff has been playing a lot of tennis at this event taking part in both singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Mixed doubles ended quickly as she lost with Jack Sock early. She was doing well with Jessica Pegula, but they lost to Hsieh and Wang.

She went all the way in the singles, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the final to win her maiden Grand Slam trophy. It's a major success for Gauff, whose entire life revolves around tennis. Before the biggest match of her career, Gauff turned to her boyfriend, opening up about that side of her life for the first time in her life.

You know, I thought about it, but I told myself to get it out of my head, because that's what I did at French. I was envisioning, you know, what would happen if I would win. I think I wanted it too much. Last night, I started a little bit, but honestly, I just called my boyfriend, and I told him let's talk until it's time to go to sleep so we spoke until 1:00 a.m. and then I went to sleep.

The match was a very good one for Gauff, one where she remained calm even after the shaky start. It proved decisive as she managed to win the match and secure the trophy. She talked about the mindset that allowed her to remain calm and win.

Yeah, when I lost the first set I still felt I was into the match and I said, you know, I'm going to give it my all. You know, whatever happens happens. Even on that match point, you know, 40-Love, like, technically the match was on my racquet. It didn't feel like I had won. It was crazy. I was just trying my best to just focus on the point ahead of me.
