Coco Gauff Set To Reach New Career-High After Historic US Open Win

by Sebastian Dahlman

Coco Gauff will reach a new career-high ranking on Monday, September 11th, following her incredible US Open win.

Gauff's season looked in shambles after her early Wimbledon exit just a few months ago. You kind of expected her to come out with some fire during the US Open stretch because of that, and that's exactly what she did.

Powered by a new coaching set-up and a determination to play attacking tennis, Gauff rolled off a couple of notable results. It started back in Washington at the WTA 500 event, where she won the trophy.

She added another one at the Cincinnati Masters and extended that winning streak in New York to double digits. The end result of all of that was her winning the US Open by beating Aryna Sabaelnka in the final.

At 19, Gauff became the youngest American US Open champion since Serena Williams, securing several milestones. The most important one was her winning her maiden Grand Slam trophy, a pivotal moment for any tennis player.

She will add many more in the future, but getting that first one is always special. Doing it on a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium was even more special, and she couldn't hold back tears after the final point.

The win also ensures that she's the new US number one. It will be official on September 11th, when the new rankings come out. Her new ranking, number three, is also the highest she's ever had, which is another career milestone.

It comes one year after she entered the Top 10 officially. On September 12th, 2022, Gauff debuted in the Top 10 at number 8, and now, a full year after that, she gets a new career high ranking. This time, she'll see number three next to her name.

The goal is obviously to be number one, but she'll need to work a bit more towards that. Aryna Sabalenka, the new number one, is pretty far away, but it's only a matter of time.
