‘Focus On Staying Healthy’: Bartoli Backs Raducanu For Successful Return

Emma Raducanu is not playing tennis right now due to her injuries but former player Marion Bartoli is sure of her successful return.

Emma Raducanu underwent triple surgery recently to fix issues in both wrists and her ankle. Those injuries plagued her for a while but the overwhelming sentiment is that she'll be able to overcome them with a focused effort.

Former player Marion Bartoli certainly believes that as well because the key to any good tennis career is to stay healthy. Raducanu has had a lot of injuries since she was able to win the US Open with a spectacular run over a year ago.

First of all, she needs to focus on staying healthy because if you look at her last 18 months since winning the US Open title the amount of injuries she has carried is enormous. She hasn't been able to play a full schedule. The physicality of a season is very intense but the talent is always going to be there, so it's not a question of talent."

Raducanu has made moves in her team that have signalled her intention to make her body stronger than before but unfortunately, those lingering issues weren't going to go away on their own. They needed surgical intervention but with a good team, Raducanu will be back even stronger.

It takes time to build the body and it takes time to get to your fitness level at the level required after being on the sidelines for a few months, so you can't just rush the process. Maybe 2023 is almost finished for her, but she has to use that for a build up to 2024 and go and target the Grand Slams and the Olympics.

One thing that plays into Raducanu's hand is her age. She's still fairly young and doesn't have to rush anything including the recovery process. Building up herself is the priority and whenever she returns there will be time for her to do well.

Bartoli further spoke about the endorsements which some have blamed as taking away from tennis. She doesn't see it that way because to her there hasn't been a lack of focus from Raducanu. With time she'll be fine.

I don't think there is a lack of focus. Of course there are endorsements but Maria Sharapova had a lot of endorsements but she was extremely focused throughout her career and Serena Williams was the same. Players can have a lot of endorsements, but they're able to deal that, so that's not the issue for Emma. Give her time and she will be fine."
