After a series of injuries hampered her play, Emma Raducanu opted for surgery, recently completing the second of three scheduled surgeries.
Raducanu hasn’t had the best season, with her luck being pretty bad. She’s been dealing with lots of physical issues for many months. On top of that, the British player rolled her ankle at the ASB Classic in Auckland, which was another setback for her.
She powered through a couple more weeks, but after yet another painful loss at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, the 2021 US Open champion called time on her season early, opting to undergo several surgeries to address the issues that have been preventing her from playing the way she can.
There was no reason to try to outlast these injuries because they could only possibly get worse with time. So, it made sense for Raducanu to simply stop and fix her issues, as she wasn’t winning or playing well to begin with.
Raducanu has three surgeries scheduled, two of which have now been completed, as the second was just done. It was the surgery that addressed the ankle issue, which she suffered in Auckland.
Raducanu was spotted in very good spirits after the surgery, smiling for a camera that captured her in a wheelchair post-surgery. The same image showed Raducanu’s right hand taped as well, since she had also undergone wrist surgery earlier.
There is one more surgery to go, after which Raducanu is expected to begin what should be a lengthy recovery period, even though the exact timeline is not known at the moment.
There is a minor chance that Raducanu will be able to recover in time to play this year, but if she opts for a more conservative approach, then she’s very likely to skip the entire year. However, she will certainly miss the French Open as well as the Wimbledon Championships.
Time will tell, but it’s good to see Raducanu in good spirits because having to undergo triple surgery at such a young age is unfortunate.
