Former professional tennis player Viktor Troicki was born in Belgrade, Serbia, on February 10, 1986. Despite not coming from a family with a famous sporting heritage, Troicki spent most of his childhood heavily involved in sports. He grew up as an avid football fan before picking up the racket and hitting the courts for the first time at the tender age of five.

This paved the way for a promising junior career, with the Serbian enjoying relative success among the boys and reaching a junior-high ranking of 10 in the world. Before long, he made the switch to the professional circuit, with 2006 being the year he joined the men.

After spending the first few years of his career adjusting to life among the world’s best, his first title eventually arrived in 2010 when he won in Moscow. Despite titles proving ostensibly harder to come by for the Serbian, he had consistent performances year-round, helping him steadily climb the rankings.

Between 2008 and 2017, he reached at least the third round at 12 different Grand Slam events, proving his talent and capabilities across all surfaces. The early 2010s were a somewhat successful period in Troicki’s career, as he helped his country to Davis Cup success alongside all-time great Novak Djokovic in 2010 before reaching his career-high ranking of world number 12 just the next year in 2011.

The next decade kicked up mixed results for the man from Belgrade, winning a couple more ATP titles before eventually calling time at the All England Club in 2021. Despite not drowning in titles like compatriot Novak Djokovic, Troicki has still earned himself the status of a fan-favorite in his home country, Serbia.

Since retirement, he has remained an integral part of his country’s representation within the sport, becoming Davis Cup captain and leading his compatriots since 2020.
