The Tallinn Open was a WTA tennis tournament that was held only once during the 2022 season. The event was played at the FORUS Tennis Center in Tallinn, Estonia, which is the home of a then world no. 2, Anett Kontaveit.

In 2020, 2021, and 2022 ATP and WTA, things were far from ordinary, and that was because of multiple reasons. First, a COVID-19 pandemic wreaked havoc in 2020 and 2021, and Peng Shuai controversy, and Chinese lockdown further escalated things later on.

As a result, multiple different tournaments had to be added to the calendar, and those were usually tournaments in Europe, as the ATP and WTA wanted to minimize the risk of travelling a lot and fulfilling many different rules for entering various countries.

At the time, Anett Kontaveit was the world no. 2 in the WTA Rankings, and that was likely one of the reasons why one of the WTA 250 tournaments was held in Tallinn, Estonia. She even fought for the event to be held in the country, as Estonia's Prime Minister at the time didn't seem to be thrilled by the idea.

The Estonian entered the tournament as the only Top 10 player and, naturally, the top seed in the tournament, along with the likes of Belinda Bencic, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Madison Keys, and Jelena Ostapenko.

Kontaveit also reached the final of the tournament, to the delight of the home crowd, however, Barbora Krejcikova proved to be too strong to overcome, as the Czech player won the first and only edition of the Tallinn Open.

In doubles, Ukrainian duo Lyudmyla Kichenok and Nadiia Kichenok bested Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Laura Siegemund to lift the inaugural Tallinn Open title.
