Jodie Burrage is a British professional tennis player who was born on May 28, 1999, in Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom. Introduced to tennis by her mother, Burrage’s talent was immediately evident. She started at a specialized tennis academy while at school before honing in her skills after completing her education.
After racing through the junior levels and gaining experience in the minor leagues, Burrage was ready to try to make the leap up to the WTA level. Her tour debut came at the 2020 Linz Open, in the doubles tournament. The following season, she made her tour debut in singles, at the Abu Dhabi Open.
Things were on the up for Burrage, who, later that same season, received a wildcard for her home Slam - Wimbledon, which took her to her maiden Grand Slam appearance. Despite losing in the first round, having another Brit fighting on the biggest stage excited the home fans, which fed her with yet more encouragement.
She has always had a love affair with the British grass season, with some of her best results coming in her home country. In 2022, she beat then-world number 4 Paula Badosa at the Eastbourne International before going on to reach the Nottingham Open final in 2023, where she set up an all-British final against Katie Boulter.
The summer of 2023 was also the year that she recorded her first-ever Grand Slam win, coming at that season’s Wimbledon. Juggling her skills on the doubles court, too, Burrage claimed her maiden WTA tour-level title later that same year at the 2023 Transylvania Open.
Fast-forward to 2024, and Burrage is still making stellar progress. Playing in the Australian Open main draw for the first time before reaching her first WTA 500 quarter-final meant that she was taken up into the world's Top 100.
