Greet Minnen is a Belgian professional tennis player who was born on August 14, 1997, in Turnhout, Belgium. It became rapidly clear that she had talent when she was a child, picking up a racket for the first time.
This meant she had a flourishing junior career, which saw her reach the final of the girls’ doubles tournament at the Australian Open. Soon after, the Belgian got her first taste of WTA level. It came in the doubles tournament of the 2018 Luxembourg Open.
Talk about a duck in water; nothing was more true with Minnen, who won the tournament on what was her debut appearance on the Tour. As for singles, the Belgian adjusted to the tour at a similar time.
Her singles WTA main draw debut came at the Hobart International in 2019, where she saw through not only the qualifying competition but also the first two rounds to set up a third-round encounter against sixth seed Alize Cornet, which she eventually lost.
The following season she got her first victory in singles at a Grand Slam, coming in Australia. 2021 brought many notable achievements for the Belgian, with her reaching her first WTA semifinal in singles at the Prague Open before reaching her furthest round at a Grand Slam when she reached the third round at the US Open in New York.
In doubles, she and partner Alison Van Uytvanck won the Luxembourg Open, her second title on tour. The years followed, and so did her progress, with her reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open in doubles in both 2022 and 2023, setting her up nicely to break into the Top 45 in 2024. As for singles, Minnen reached the Top 60 in the world, which she achieved towards the end of 2023.
