McNally reached six junior Grand Slam finals in doubles and singles. She won the Roland Garros doubles with Iga Swiatek in 2018. In addition, she won the girl's doubles title at the US Open with Coco Gauff. Before turning pro in 2019, McNally won several titles on the ITF Circuit. She lifted two singles titles and five doubles titles.

2019 was a breakthrough season for McNally. She played at Indian Wells, the Miami Open and made her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon. In the summer, she reached the Washington Open semi-final. She also won her first-ever Grand Slam match at the US Open.

In 2019, McNally also won two doubles titles, both alongside Gauff. The first came in Luxembourg, and the second in Washington. McNally continued to establish herself on the WTA Tour in 2020. She made the second round at the Australian Open and the third round at the US Open.

She and Gauff also progressed to the Australian Open quarter-finals and McNally broke into the doubles Top 40. A largely disrupted 2020 campaign slowed McNally’s progress. However, she returned for a strong 2021, making the Guadalajara Open quarter-finals and round three in Charleston and Nottingham.

More triumphs came in doubles as McNally won in Parma with Gauff and Charleston with Hailey Baptiste. McNally and Gauff also reached the US Open final in doubles. In 2022, McNally won her fifth WTA doubles title with Anna Kalinskaya at the St Petersburg Trophy. She also made a second consecutive US Open final in September alongside Taylor Townsend.

McNally also broke into the singles Top 100 for the first time in her career in 2022. Late in the season, the American player won the WTA 125 event, the Midland Classic to climb up the rankings. A semi-final run at the 2023 Merida Open saw McNally rise to 75th in the WTA Rankings.

At the same event, she partnered with Diane Parry in doubles and won. However, an elbow injury after the 2023 Wimbledon competition ended McNally’s season. She returned to the 2024 Transylvania Open in February.
