In recent months, Holger Rune enjoys ascent in the ATP Rankings thanks to his good results but also fairly bit of controversies.
The young Dane got involved in an argument with Casper Ruud at the Roland Garros this year and he also made headlines after his match with Cameron Norrie at the US Open. On the court, Holger Rune shows that he's a really energetic person, but sometimes it's too much for his opponents.
During his final match against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Basel, Rune got into a heated exchange with umpire Mohamed Layhani when he was not happy about one of his calls. During a changeover, he shouted:
"What the f*ck are you doing? You must be f*cking kidding me. How can you not see this? Man, it’s 40 all something, five all (in the) second set, final, you made the biggest mistake man, and you don’t even look at me. You're too proud to look at me. You're like a king" - ranted Rune while sitting on his bench following the dropped serve.
Only a few days later, he took on Stan Wawrinka at the 2022 Paris Masters and the 37-years-old experienced Swiss player didn't like how his opponent acted throughout the match.
After a three-set battle that ended with a victory for the Dane (4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3)), Wawrinka exchanged some words with Rune on the net in an attempt to help him: “My advice to you is that you stop acting like a baby on court.”
