Stan Wawrinka will reunite with former coach Magnus Norman after parting ways with Daniel Vallverdu following the 2022 US Open.

Wawrinka spent almost the entire 2021 season away from the tennis courts. He returned this year, and naturally, he struggled to find his best level in the early weeks of his comeback.

The Swiss player lost 10 of his first 13 matches. However, after the US Open, his level significantly improved. Wawrinka reached the semi-finals at the ATP 250 event in Metz, and now he started with a win also at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

He started with a surprising win over the second-seeded Casper Ruud in Basel, and after his win, the three-time Grand Slam champion also spoke about the change in his coaching team.

Wawrinka revealed that he parted ways with Daniel Vallverdu after this year's US Open. At the same time, he once again hired Magnus Norman, who he enjoyed plenty of success under. In 2016, Norman even received the ATP Coach of the Year award.

"There was change after the US Open. I decided to stop working with Dani Vallverdu and, with Magnus, we are looking for the best possible balance to write a final chapter."

Wawrinka explained that Norman knows him the best, as he has worked with him before. The Swedish coach should start working with the Swiss player during this off-season.

"He is the one who knows my game best, the one who has helped me the most in my career. He will take care of the offseason and the biggest tournaments including those of the Grand Slam. For the rest, we will discuss."

After his first-round win in Basel, Wawrinka will get a chance to prove his high level in the second round once again. His opponent will be Brandon Nakashima.
