Shaking hands seems like such a mundane thing to do; most people do it all the time, yet at times, it can get tense.

Shaking hands is a customary thing to do in most countries. There are some obvious examples where people bow instead of shaking hands, but generally, it's become a symbol of something good, whether it's an introduction or some business deal going through.

In tennis, it's customary to shake hands after a match as a sign of good sportsmanship and respect between players, but it doesn't happen after every match. We've seen plenty of instances this year of players not shaking hands, let alone over the course of the sport's long history.

Most of those handshake snubs this year were between Ukrainians and Russian or Belarusian players, mostly on the WTA Tour. It's been something most fans have gotten used to it by now as it's a practice across many sports. Just recently, a Ukrainian fencer was disqualified after refusing to shake hands with her Russian opponent after beating her

Elina Svitolina showed her support as she herself hasn't shaken hands this year. Venus Williams didn't shake the umpire's hand at Wimbledon, but even when players do shake hands, we can either see a cool one or a very chilly one. There have been plenty of those over the years, and we're going to list some memorable ones on the ATP Tour.

Berdych vs Nadal (2006)

Back in 2006, we saw Tomas Berdych take down Rafael Nadal in Madrid when the event was still played on hard courts. The Spanish crowd logically supported their home hero, but the victorious Czech tried to silence them, as Nadal had some words to say to him at the net.

Wawrinka vs Rune (2022)

Last year in Paris, Holger Rune won his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the Paris Masters, but Stan Wawrinka was close to beating him. After the match, the Swiss veteran also had some words for the young Dane as they shook hands.

Fognini vs The World (∞)

What would such a list be without Fabio Fognini, who had some tense ones over the years. He had one with Andy Murray a couple of years ago. One with Aljaz Bedene last year, one with Nadal in 2015, and so on. You can check out all of those mentioned below.
