Alexander Zverev was asked about the ongoing ATP investigation in the abuse allegations against him made by former girlfriend Olga Sharypova.
Alexander Zverev got in trouble many months ago when former girlfriend Olga Sharypova accused him of domestic abuse via a journalist piece and exclusive interview written by Ben Rothenberg. The Russian opted not to press charges but Zverev was furious about it and announced he was going to sue her for defamation.
The ATP announced an investigation and many months later we are now at the stage where the investigation is ongoing and nothing is for certain. Zverev declined to comment about his intention to sue for defamation and how that case is progressing and if he indeed pressed charges. He was asked in Madrid about the ongoing investigation and he briefly commented on it:
"Until you prove yourself innocent you are guilty in the world that we live in now, which is not very fair at times. I hope the whole thing is coming to an end at some point, and then I can also play calmly and be focused in tennis"
The investigation was considered a sham for a long time because the ATP took 8 months to contact the presumed victim to hear her side of the story. The move was widely criticized but for now, it seems only time will give the tennis community answers as to what will happen.
