Emma Raducanu's pre-tournament press conference at the 2025
Wimbledon Championships ended with the question many tennis fans have been asking: Is she dating
Carlos Alcaraz?
Last week, it was revealed that
Raducanu and Alcaraz will play mixed doubles together during the 2025 US Open fan week. The usual mixed doubles during the event was scrapped to allow a format that attracts top singles players.
Although there were many superb pairs, including Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov, Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios, and Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa, Raducanu and Alcaraz playing together received the most attention by far.
Before any other developments, rumors immediately circulated online about the possibility of them being in a relationship. Both players are 22 years old and attract significant attention for winning the US Open as teenagers.
Alcaraz's response to playing with Raducanu added to the speculation. The five-time major champion said he personally asked to play with the Briton and wanted to be paired with her more than anyone else.
Raducanu was then pictured at the 2025 Queen's Club Championships watching Alcaraz, who went on to win the title. Her time at his match included a moment that went viral, when she looked particularly impressed after a good shot by the Spaniard.
The 2021 US Open winner's press conference at Wimbledon ended with her being asked about the rumors that had built up for over a week. Those who hoped the two were dating will be disappointed with Raducanu's response.
"We're just good friends."
The video below shows that Raducanu found the question amusing and took no offense. When the press conference ended after that question, she gave the reporters a double thumbs-up and said, "Way to wrap up" before laughing more.
Fans who would like to see them in a relationship might not give up hope yet. It is not uncommon for athletes not to immediately reveal when they are dating because of the scrutiny that comes with being in a high-profile relationship.
Of course, Raducanu telling the truth about the pair not dating is entirely possible. Some players make a concerted effort not to date fellow athletes because of the stresses that come with it.
Coco Gauff is among those who have said she is happy not to be in a relationship with another tennis player. The 2025 Roland Garros champion has been dating an unnamed man for a while, whom she recently revealed had applied for music school. She prefers to keep their relationship private.
Successful tennis couples do exist. Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter are engaged, and Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas have dated since 2023, except for a brief period of a few weeks when they broke up.
The most famous tennis couple is Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, who married in 2001. They have won a combined 30 Grand Slam singles titles and have also played pickleball together.
Some romantic relationships between tennis players are less successful. Anastasia Potapova and Alexander Shevchenko
were married for less than a year before they divorced.
