Tsitsipas Explains Decision To Withdraw From Mixed Doubles With Girlfriend Badosa

by Zachary Wimer

Stefanos Tsitsipas was supposed to play mixed doubles with girlfriend Paula Badosa at the 2024 Roland Garros, but they couldn't, and he's still upset about it.

The tennis' most famous couple is back together, and fans in Paris were supposed to finally see 'Tsitsidosa' in an official mixed doubles match. They played together late last year at the World Tennis League, but they never got to play in an official match, unfortunately.

There were plans to play doubles at Wimbledon last year, but it never materialized. This year's Roland Garros was supposed to be finally their debut tournament, but once again, they were forced to withdraw from it.

Luckily, the culprit this time around wasn't Badosa's injury; it was the rain and schedule, which meant that Tsitsipas would have had to play three matches in one day.

He had his singles match, which he won, and his doubles match, which he also won. However, by the time the mixed doubles match came along, it would have been too much, so the match was postponed.

Still, on the following day, he had two matches to play once again, with a quarter-final in singles against Carlos Alcaraz the following day, so he has decided to withdraw from hte mixed doubles. He's still upset about it because he would have loved to play with his girlfriend.

"I'm still upset about it. I have to blame the weather in Paris. It was a disaster. I didn't expect that I would have to play two doubles in one day, especially a day before a big match like the singles quarterfinals. It's too much for anyone and I think it was a wise decision to retire from one of the boards."

Both were quite disappointed about it, but Badosa was quite understanding and supported his decision to withdraw. Hopefully, we will see them again in the future, possibly at Wimbledon not too many weeks from now.

"I'm glad Paula understood and was the first to suggest it a few days ago but I was convinced I could handle it and be okay."
