Novak Djokovic really wants to succeed at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as it's virtually the only title that he misses in his collection.
Djokovic has won everything that could be won in tennis. He has won the Australian Open ten times, he has two French Open titles, he is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, and he has also won the US Open three times.
But there is one title, or better said a medal, that he misses in his collection. The Serbian player loves representing his country, but he has never won the Olympic Games.
In 2008 in Beijing, he reached the semi-finals, but after losing to his rival Rafael Nadal 4-6, 6-1, 4-6, Djokovic had to settle for a bronze medal after beating James Blake 6-3, 7-6(4).
In 2024, he will have a chance to win a gold medal again, especially since it will be held on the clay courts at Roland Garros. According to many analysts, Djokovic is the second-best clay-court play in history behind his rival, which will increase his chances at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"I look forward to Olympics. You mentioned Olympics. I hope that I'll be able to play healthy for next year in Paris Olympic Games. It's going to be played on clay in Roland Garros, so I'm familiar with those grounds."
Djokovic explained his mentality, saying that the desire to win motivates him. According to the Serbian player, without the desire, he wouldn't be able to compete.
"Well, desire has been always there. I mean, without desire, I feel like there's no motion in any sense of that word. So I always try to be very clear with myself what the goals are, what I want from tennis, competitive tennis."
"This is the way I've been brought up and been taught by some of the key people in my life, of course including my parents and some of the coaches I had early on."
"This kind of mentality really helped me to always be so devoted to the game. I always remind myself that it's the willpower, the desire to succeed that's essential ingredient in the whole formula."
