Stefanos Tsitsipas sails into Roland Garros R3

Stefanos Tsitsipa didn't allow Roberto Carballes Baena to drag him into a long match by keeping it simple and short in three sets 6-3 7-6(4) 6-2.

The match itself wasn't a perfect one for Tsitsipas as he had moments where he looked a bit erratic at times. He did control the match rather well from the start finding good solutions to the drag-out playstyle that Carballes Baena loves to play.

It was a much more clean match compared to his round one where he dropped a set to Vesely and showed some doubt in his tennis. This looked much more like a player who has spent 200 weeks in the top 10, very decisive.

The first set was a very good one from Tsitsipas as he took initiative early on. He broke Carballes Baena for the 3-1 lead early and then added another one to close out the set 6-3. He was quite good attacking the Spaniard hitting 12 winners in the. The second set followed a similar blueprint as he took an early lead as well but he had a few games where his tennis became a bit too erratic.

Carballes Baena used that to get himself back into the match forcing a tiebreak which Tsitsipas still won 7-4. Tsitispas had 15 unforced errors in this one which is why the set was as close as it was. Had he had more control in his game during that shaky part of the match, he would have won the set earlier.

Learning from those mistakes, Tsitsipas didn't complicate things in the final one. He jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and after that held comfortably for the 6-2 finish. A very solid 46 winner - 29 unforced errors line which is a good sign amid the recent struggles of many players with ball control.
