The Ultimate Tennis Showdown added another player to its ever-growing field and it's rising star Ben Shelton.
The American wowed many with his devastating serve and brave approach earlier this year at the Australian Open. He made a rather deep run out of nowhere solidifying himself as a name to watch during the rest of the season.
His level has been okay since then though never coming close to it which is normal. He's playing his first full professional ATP season as a player who mostly played back home in the United States, Shelton will take some time to adjust, especially to clay tennis.
He will be back home in the US in July to take part in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles. It's an exhibition event with a unique format and it will feature a lot of crowd magnets like Nick Kyrgios and Frances Tiafoe alongside veteran Diego Schwartzman and US number one Taylor Fritz.
This is definitely a different concept for me, a new concept, something that I’ve never played in before, completely different format so I’m really excited, I’m always open to try new things, so be able to play in the UTS and experience tennis in a different way I’m really happy.
Nicknamed the Mountain, Shelton will bring his devastating serve as well as youthful energy to an event where a more loose approach is always welcomed. He explained that he signed up to try something new and his shot-making will be a welcomed addition at the event.
I decided to say yes to play in the UTS in 2023 because I think it’s a great new avenue to grow our sport, I think that’s a type of tennis that’s gonna be very different and exciting and I think that it will really help grow the sport and grow the groups that are tennis fans.
