Rune 'Hopes For Less Drama' In Roland Garros Rematch Against Ruud

Rune 'Hopes For Less Drama' In Roland Garros Rematch Against Ruud

by Sebastian Dahlman

Holger Rune will face Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros quarter-final once more and the hope is to avoid any drama.

Rune and Ruud played a very heated night match last year which saw the Norwegian advance in four sets. He would end up in his first grand slam final later that week which he lost to Rafael Nadal, and Rune is hoping that he could be the one this year.

It's been a good clay season for the Dane with two finals (Monte-Carlo, Rome) but also two losses in the finals. Getting into the quarter-final required some heroics from the Dane against Francisco Cerundolo and he will certainly have to be equally sharp against Ruud. It's a rematch that he's excited about, especially after beating him in Rome recently.

Yeah, I think last year it was a great match also. It was really close second and third set. He played great. He played I think one of his best tournaments last year here. So it's going to be a tough match. Now I played him last tournament in Rome. Managed to get my first win over him. But, yeah, it's gonna be tough. Now I have to recover. Yeah, let's see.

Last year's match featured some drama as players exchanged words during the match but also during the handshake. They had words for each other after the match as well but their Rome clash largely went without drama. It's something Rune hopes happens again. Ruud said a similar thing before their Rome matchup.

Yeah, I mean, obviously there was drama last year and I hope we can make less drama this year. We played each other in Rome. It was a good match, I think. He's a good player. I respect him. There's no problem. We're good. Should be a match without problems, hopefully. Just looking forward for it.
