Holger Rune denied taking inspiration from Daniil Medvedev in the way he interacts with the crowd despite similar methods.
Holger Rune has an interesting way of dealing with the crowd; to some people, it looks similar to how Medvedev does it. Both are known to occasionally rile up the crowd especially if they are cheering against them but he denied taking any inspiration from the Russian after the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters.
I don't see myself as Daniil Medvedev. I just think that when somebody is screaming while you're serving, it's not normal. That's why I either tell the umpire that if she can say something to the crowd, and if she doesn't, I will do it myself.
Like Medvedev, Rune interacts with the crowd when they cheer for their opponent. His way of thinking is mostly centred around respect and being respectful. He carries himself that way and that's what he expects from other people as well.
It's just all about respect. You know, it's important to respect people. I respect people. They have to respect me. That's all.
Despite fighting hard, Rune ultimately lost thanks to a sensational comeback by Rublev who fought back from a break down in the third set. The Dane admitted that some fatigue was in play because yesterday's match finished late but he gave it his all. It wasn't enough today but it was a close match that he could have won and that's all you can ask sometimes.
Yeah, I obviously feel like it was a long match yesterday. We finished late. You know, I didn't have much time to recover. It is what it is. I gave it all. Didn't have any more in me. I did what I could, and I was very close.
Now, he'll try to keep up the good play as the clay season continues towards the Roland Garros. Up next, he will be defending his title at the ATP 250 event in Munich.
