Rafael Nadal will receive the Camino Real Award on September 20th, 2022, according to Instituto Franklin's latest announcement.
The prize recognizes Spaniards who have positively represented their nation in the United States. The initial announcement was made on the official site of the Institute in Spanish.
"Rafael Nadal will receive the ‘Camino Real Award’ on September 20th at 12:30pm local. This is given to prominent Spaniards who are seen to have enhanced the positive image of Spain, in the United States."
Further on their website, the Institute discloses that Nadal will receive the award from King Felipe VI, during a special ceremony, which will be held in the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá.
"On September 20, 2022 at 12:30 p.m., Mr. Rafael Nadal will receive the V Camino Real Award from His Majesty King Felipe VI in a ceremony that will be held in the Auditorium of the University of Alcalá."
"The Advisory Council of the Franklin-UAH Institute unanimously agreed, in its session on September 19, 2019, to grant the Camino Real Award in its fifth edition to Mr. Rafael Nadal Parera in recognition of his capacity for sacrifice, effort, fair play, humility, improvement and respect, as well as for their involvement in different social actions."
After losing against Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round of this year's US Open, Nadal was said to have displayed excellent sportsmanship, which was complimented by many journalists on social media.
The announcement came a few days later, with Nadal's contribution on and off the court widely recognized. Moreover, without a doubt, the Spanish player has represented his country well around the world during his lengthy and successful career.
He has won 22 Grand Slam titles, and inspired thousands of kids to pick up a tennis racquet and play one of the most popular sports in the world.
