Andrey Rublev expressed his hope that politics will one day leave sports as he pointed out that it's always been part of it.
Many have expressed their belief that politics and sports should be separated but according to Andrey Rublev they never were. The Russian would know best as he was subjected to a ban from events simply due to his nationality. He fought against it trying to come up with any possible solution to the situation but was left stunned as he was repeatedly shut down.
Asked about politics in sport in Washington, Rublev said:
"I think politics has always (been there) in sport. Everybody knows this. But I do believe that by being united and doing good things for peace, tennis can be ... example of it, maybe other sports will follow, and in general, maybe one day sport can be without politics."
Rublev wishes for sports to be without politics in the future but he also understands that it's not likely, at least not at the moment. He further added:
"I believe that tennis can be without politics, because tennis is something that is independent. I think it's one of not many sports that's independent from the rest of the sports. We have players from everywhere. We play every country. ... We are traveling all around the world. ... I think tennis has a good chance to be outside of politics, because, yeah, we have all the nations (playing)."
