Picking Alcaraz As Favourite Against Djokovic In Wimbledon Final 'A Stretch' Says Azarenka

by Sebastian Dahlman

Carlos Alcaraz is contesting the Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic on Sunday, and Victoria Azarenka doesn't see him as a favourite.

Both Alcaraz and Djokovic are fantastic tennis players, but it's pretty clear that the Serbian has more experience on the surface. He has won the event seven times so far, including four times in a row, and if that wasn't enough, he entered the event with more wins at Wimbledon than the rest of the Top 20 on the ATP Tour combined.

Due to all of that, it's pretty clear that the favourite mantle belongs to Djokovic, and Alcaraz himself sees it that way. Djokovic agrees with that, as he admitted a few days ago that he does see himself as a favourite among the rest of the field though he didn't want to come off as arrogant.

Before the match, Wimbledon tweeted out a stat prediction that saw Carlos Alcaraz as the likelier winner, according to IBM Match Insights. The Spaniard was put at 55 % in front of Djokovic whose chances were put at 45 %.

Obviously, the numbers are pretty close but it's not something Victoria Azarenka agrees. She shared her own thoughts on Twitter saying that picking Alcaraz as the favourite against Djokovic is a stretch even if he's this incredible talent that we haven't seen in a while.

Alcaraz is unreal talent and already an incredible player and he is only getting better, but to pick him as a favorite against Djokovic today in Wimbledon is a stretch in my opinion… Anyway I hate predictions and all the bs talk… I’d rather enjoy the game

In the end, as a true fan of tennis, the Belarusian admitted that she doesn't like predictions and just wants to enjoy the match. Most fans could certainly agree with that sentiment.
