Stefanos Tsitsipas is not worried about the young players coming up right now, using it as fuel to work even harder and get better.
Some might say that the initial next generation with players like Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Daniil Medvedev is getting pushed out by the next batch of young players, such as Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune, and to a degree, that would be true.
Both generations of players are excellent players, but lately, the younger generation has had better results overall. To some, it's intimidating, but Tsitsipas is not afraid of it.
To him, seeing players younger than himself achieve all those things he wants to achieve as well is rather stimulating, and he's using it as fuel to become an even better player.
"I'm not worried or afraid. Although these younger guys are a fantastic stimulus, I'm still young too. We will have the opportunity to challenge each other for a long time and it will be very exciting. I certainly won't lower my head even though I respect them a lot."
There are plenty of goals that Tsitsipas wants to achieve in his career, but lately, he's been very enamoured by the World No. 1 ranking. It's something that he dreamed of since he was a kid, and his consistency is one way he could get it.
The Monte-Carlo Masters was a disappointment for the Greek player. His campaign at the Barcelona Open was a bit better, even though he lost to one of those rising youngsters in the final, and then recorded another disappointing loss in Madrid, even though he felt really good heading into it.
"The number one [ranking] is in my mind, even if I know it's not easy, I'm ready. In Monte-Carlo, I didn't play up to my expectations. In Barcelona, Alcaraz was better than me, but in Madrid, I felt the right sensations were flowing, even though I lost against Struff."
Roland Garros is an event in which Tsitsipas played really well in the past, and a deep run there could certainly get him closer to both his goals - winning a Grand Slam and becoming the World No. 1 player.
