"Not worried or afraid" - Tsitsipas On Rising Youngsters in Tennis

Stefanos Tsitsipas is not worried about the young players coming up right now using it as fuel to work even harder and get better.

Some might say that the initial next-gen with players like Tsitsipas, Zverev, and Medvedev is getting pushed out by the next batch of young players such as Alcaraz and Rune, and to a degree that would be true. Both generations of players are excellent players but lately, the younger one has had better results overall.

To some it's intimidating but Tsitsipas is not afraid of it. To him, seeing players younger than himself achieve all those things he wants to achieve as well is rather stimulating and he's using it as fuel to become an even better player.

I'm not worried or afraid. Although these younger guys are a fantastic stimulus, I'm still young too. We will have the opportunity to challenge each other for a long time and it will be very exciting. I certainly won't lower my head even though I respect them a lot.

There are plenty of goals that Tsitsipas wants to achieve in his career but lately, he's been very enamoured by the number one ranking. It's something that he dreamed of since he was a kid and his consistency is one way he could get it.

Monte-Carlo was a disappointment, Barcelona was a good outing though he lost to one of those rising youngsters in the final and then Madrid was another disappointing loss though he felt really good heading into it.

The number one [ranking] is in my mind, even if I know it's not easy, I'm ready. In Monte-Carlo, I didn't play up to my expectations. In Barcelona, Alcaraz was better than me, but in Madrid, I felt the right sensations were flowing, even though I lost against Struff.

Roland Garros is an event where he played really well in the past and a deep run there could certainly get him closer to both his goals - winning a grand slam and becoming world number one.
