'Not Surprised': Alcaraz On His Meteoric Rise In Tennis & Being Face Of Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz is the youngest tennis player in the Top 50 on the ATP Tour and he's not surprised about it demonstrating full belief in his skillset.

A lot of people are confident in their skills whatever they might be. Not all should be though as there are plenty of people overselling their skills but Carlos Alcaraz is not one of them. The Spaniard is confident, arguably extremely confident but he backs it up as well.

At times he does get humbled like he did against Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros but he's staying consistent with talking a big game. There are plenty of records he already broke and still plenty of those that he will break. He's the youngest man to be number one ever and also the youngest player in the Top 50 in the ATP Rankings right now.

Following his most recent win at Roland Garros, Alcaraz was asked whether any of these milestones surprise him and calmly responded that none of them surprises him. He's very aware of his skills and level so it's natural.

Well, I'm not surprised honestly 'cause I know my skills. I know what I'm capable of. Is something that I work really hard to be in that position, to be what I am right now. Honestly, I'm not surprised at all.

Alcaraz on the milestones

Even so, the match against Nicolas Jarry proved that he's still human and can have issues on the grass. Jarry played a really strong match attacking Alcaraz in most rallies which exposed some of the deficiencies. Even so, the Spaniard rose on top in four sets but be assured that Djokovic was watching.

The Serbian has been playing pretty aggressively at this event so a potential match between them would be spectacular. Alcaraz himself wants it to happen and correctly assumes that many fans would love to see it as well.

Well, not only tennis fans, sports fans want the final. Myself as well, honestly. I have I think three rounds ahead. I'm really focused on the next round. Is Berrettini or Zverev. Both players have great tennis on grass. Is going to be really tough one. But obviously my dream is play a final here. Even better is Novak.

As he partially shared in his response, he'll face Matteo Berrettini in the next round after he defeated Alexander Zverev. The Italian historically did better on grass though he hasn't played much lately. He'll always be dangerous at Wimbledon though making him a tricky test for Alcaraz.
