'Not End Of Djokovic Era': Becker Backs Djokovic To Tie Court's 24 Grand Slams

| by Sebastian Dahlman

Novak Djokovic nearly won the 2023 Wimbledon Championships and it's a clear signal to Boris Becker that his era is not coming to an end.

The emergence of Carlos Alcaraz on the ATP Tour showed some cracks in Djokovic's armor but never as much as during the 2023 Wimbledon Championships final. It was a great match for both players, but for the first time in a while, Djokovic looked very vulnerable.

The Spaniard didn't play a perfect match but he managed some pretty impressive comebacks in that match such as the one in the second set tiebreak as well as the final one where he saved a break point in a rally that should have been Djokovic's.

It was a painful loss for Djokovic who conceded after the match that Alcaraz is indeed the best player in the world but it would be foolish to forget about Djokovic entirely. He'll be a contender in New York because as long he's motivated he'll be a dangerous player.

Speaking to Eurosport recently, Becker shared his thoughts on the Djokovic era explaining that he doesn't think that it's over.

I don’t think it’s the end of the Djokovic era, and I hope not, because that was an excellent example of how a tennis match should be. We won millions of new fans thanks to that, and I hope they can repeat that in New York or Melbourne. I don’t think Djokovic will stop performing.

It's a pretty safe bet generally because he didn't seem underwhelming physically in London but simply some of the crucial rallies didn't go his way. It happens, but Becker reiterated his belief. If the Serbian is motivated, he's going to be dangerous.

The question is about motivation: what keeps Djokovic going? Yes, certainly on the 24th [Grand Slam], then he would be the best along with Margaret Court as far as ‘majors’ are concerned. He already is in the men’s category, but of course he wants to be in the general.
