Novak Djokovic returned to tennis this week at the Cincinnati Masters and made it to the final, which is not a surprise to him.
Putting the word surprise and anything Novak Djokovic does next to it doesn't make any sense because the Serbian has been so good for such a very long time. Still, some might argue that his level shown this week has been quite a bit above the level of somebody who is playing his first ATP event in a month.
Novak Djokovic, of course, isn't your average tennis player, and he himself isn't surprised by the level he's shown. Speaking to the media after his most recent win over Alexander Zverev, Djokovic admitted that he expects these kinds of results from himself.
I always expect myself to play on a high level. It's not a big surprise for me. I know the amount of work that I put in on and off the court in order to be where I am. So it's not a big surprise, to be honest.
It's been a while since Djokovic stood on a hard court, and it's definitely good to be back. Widely considered one of the best hard court players of all time, Djokovic will contest the first hard court match against Alcaraz later today. He hopes to keep the high level going so he can avenge the Wimbledon defeat.
It definitely feels great to come back to the hard court tournaments after February, actually the last time I played, already played finals of the one of the biggest events in the sport. Some really good performances this week. So hopefully I can keep it going tomorrow.
