Nick Kyrgios wasn't too impressed with the comments of former player Tracy Austin who talked about Kyrgios' stance on not wanting to play tennis for too long.
Nick Kyrgios's stance on retiring early from tennis has been known for a very long time as the Australian simply doesn't enjoy grinding in the way the sport and the ATP Tour demand. He certainly wouldn't enjoy doing that as a 30-year-old, which is why he recently admitted that he won't play in his thirties.
It also shouldn't be a surprise to anybody who is remotely familiar with the Australian, but the stance saddened former player Tracy Austin, who won two US Open singles titles and is of the opinion that players should cherish any moment on the courts, especially as retirement nears.
I kind of find it sad you're playing a professional sport & you just don't absolutely love it. You don't drink it up.. You want to feel like you're lucky to be out there.
The Australian, as a heavy social media user, saw her comments and responded by laughing off the suggestion that luck had anything to do with him being on a tennis court. It was mostly his hard work and he also added that he's not obsessed with tennis.
Why am I lucky to be out there? I worked and I put myself in that position, there wasn’t any luck involved. Some people play for different things, we aren’t all tennis nuts, some of us have a little more of an impact than that. I wasn’t athletically gifted at all, there are photos to prove that. I just worked it out.
It's been one of many comments he made on Twitter recently as he hit out at a tennis journalist before, after the claim that they started to dislike him.
