Milos Raonic Receives Wild Card For 2023 Canadian Open in Toronto

Milos Raonic made a surprising return on grass with the hope of playing a few events including the Canadian Open, and he'll do just that after receiving a wild card for the event.

Raonic has been away from tennis for two years, basically being retired in all but name. The Canadian's body broke down relatively early in terms of his age which was unfortunate as he was a solid player at his peak.

He was ranked number 3 on the ATP Tour, but he's not at that level anymore. His performances on grass have been quite solid, probably better than many people anticipated considering how much time he was away from the sport.

When announcing his return, Raonic talked about the wish to play in Toronto at the Canadian Open since, in many ways, that event will likely be his last. The Canadian was adamant that this was not some tennis comeback that would see him play regularly. He even admitted that he had no intention of coming back to the sport during his absence.

His return already saw him deal with some physical issues so it's clear that his body can't handle it anymore. It's very likely that he officially retires after this year's Canadian Open, but at least he'll be able to play it once more. He received a wild card entry joining a pretty solid field of Canadian players like Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, and Bianca Andreescu in the main draw.

His best result at the event came a long time ago in 2013, when he made it to the final, losing to Rafael Nadal. He made it to a few quarter-finals besides that but for the most part, it hasn't been the best of events for him result-wise. He played far better in Cincinnati for example with the Indian Wells being his best Masters out of all of them.
