On the 27th of October 2019, Matteo Berrettini entered the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings for the first time and he was a stable part of it for almost three years.

Matteo Berrettini is one of the players that doesn't always win the biggest tournaments, but he patiently collects points from the most important tournaments and therefore he managed to stay in the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings for almost three years.

In 2021, the Italian reached quarterfinals at the Roland Garros and US Open and final at Wimbledon. He started his 2022 season with semifinals at the Australian Open and so he reached at least quarterfinals at all of the last 4 Grand Slam tournaments played at that moment what granted him a very good spot in the rankings.

But then, Berrettini got injured and was forced to skip the Roland Garros where he was set to defend quarterfinals. Moreover, the 2022 Wimbledon will be played without any points being awarded and so the 2021 finalist Berrettini won't be able to defend any of his points.

Also that is one of the main reasons why he won't be able to remain in the Top 10 of the ATP Rankings. If he doesn't win his semifinal match against Oscar Otte at the 2022 Stuttgart Open, he will move to the 11th place already on next Monday. If he succeeds, he will have a difficult task in the Queen's Club as he will be defending a title at the Cinch Championships.

Even if he succeeds in doing so, dropping 1200 points from Wimbledon will be inevitable and so will be his departure from the Top 10. Despite this little hindrance in his journey, Matteo Berrettini will definitely try to fight for his spot and return back to the top as soon as possible.
