Carlos Alcaraz is one step closer to a Wimbledon final; going on a deep run and possibly playing a final at the Championships is a stated goal for him.

The Spaniard touched down in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with a lot of doubt about his grass level. He did have a solid outing at the event last year but solid outings aren't what he's looking for. The anticlimactic end to his Roland Garros experience left him even more hungry for Grand Slams success so the obvious goal is to aim for the trophy.

Aiming for the trophy while being unsure about your level on a surface that has been shaky for you in the past seems foolish but that's exactly what Alcaraz is doing. He openly stated a few days ago that his goal is to win the tournament, adding that a match against Djokovic would go differently than last time.

The newfound confidence is because of his Cinch Championships run which ended up being his first title run on grass on the ATP Tour. He carried over the good momentum to Wimbledon where he's playing some solid tennis as well.

He sent Jeremy Chardy to retirement with a stellar round-one performance. He then added another solid one booking a 3rd round at the event and he's looking to keep that going; going all the way to the final.

It would be amazing for me play a final here in Wimbledon. Even better if is against Novak obviously. But there's a lot of great players playing here on grass, that feel really, really comfortable on grass.
I have to be really, really focus until the final. It's a lot of matches ahead. I can't be relax. I have to play my best in every match. Let's see if I reach the final or not (smiling).

Alcaraz will face Nicolas Jarry in the next round after beating the Chilean earlier this year in a very dramatic and spectacular comeback. This one will likely go easier for Alcaraz but we'll see.
