Daniel Evans had only words of praise for Novak Djokovic when he talked about the Serbian recently.
Evans is one of the players who experienced competing on the ATP Tour at the height of the Big Three. Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all competed while the British player was also trying to make his mark in tennis.
While he likely tried figuring out how to beat them in his early days, now, at 32, Evans is able to also recognize their incredible qualities. As a professional tennis player himself, the Brit knows how challenging it is to stay in shape for so long.
Evans recently spoke about Djokovic, as per Daily Mail, saying he recently got a chance to see the 21-time Grand Slam champion stretch. It was incredible for the British player to witness that Djokovic is still able to stretch as if he was 14 years old.
"Novak was around and I saw him in the gym a bit and had a couple of chats with him. When you look at him in the gym, he looks like a gymnast - the way he stretches, it's like watching a 14-year-old. So if his body doesn't break down, he has to be in a great position."
In 2023, Djokovic will be allowed to compete at the Australian Open again. He was forced to miss the tournament this year, but he will return as one of the favorites next year.
According to Evans, Djokovic will be the top favorite to win in Melbourne, but the British player also mentioned Rafael Nadal, who won the 2022 edition of the event, as the possible second favorite in Australia.
"He had just got confirmation that he can go to Australia and he is pretty pumped about it. When you look at how he finished the year, and his ranking with how little he played compared to others, he is definitely the favorite for Australia, and Nadal is probably second favorite."
